Chocolate energy bites

So remember how I tried to cut sugar out of my diet? Yea, that didn’t work out very well :p

BUT I haven’t given up, because I’m Pashtun and Pukhtana don’t give up easily:p

On a serious note, I’m trying to lose a few kgs and these chocolate energy bites are the perfect snack for when you feel like you need an energy boost, maybe have these as a pre-workout. These chocolate energy bites taste amazing, even though it has no added sugar or any of the yucky stuff.

The best part about this recipe is that you can play around with the amount of ingredients you want to add. If you like almonds, but not coconut, just reduce the amount of coconut or skip it all together! Also, you could use different kinds of dates for this recipe, but I prefer the sukkary kind because of its sweetness. More on what Sukkary dates look like here.

These energy bites can be made within a few minutes, all you need to do is, grind the dates and cocoa together. Next, add the rest of the ingredients, mix and make small bite size balls. The last part is to roll the balls in oats. It’s that simple 🙂

  • 20-25 sukkary dates
  • 3 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tblsp almond butter (or ¼ cup almonds)*
  • 1tblsp shredded coconut
  • ¼ cup oats, plus more for rolling

*if using almonds, then blend that with the dates and cocoa powder

  1. In a food processer, blend the dates and cocoa powder (if using almonds, add that here too) until combined. Transfer to a bowl
  2. Next, add the almond butter, shredded coconut, oats and mix with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon
  3. Once everything is well combined, roll the mixture in to small balls (about 1.5 inches)
  4. Roll each ball in oats, covering them completely
  5. Refrigerate for 5-10 minutes
  6. Left over should be refrigerated
